What is Kirtan?
Kirtan or Keertan, is a Sanskrit word that means "narrating, reciting, telling, describing" an idea or story, specifically in Indian religions. It also refers to a genre of religious performance arts, connoting a musical form of narration or shared recitation, particularly of spiritual or religious ideas, native to the Indian continent.

With roots in the Vedic tradition, a kirtan is a call-and-response style song or chant, set to music, wherein multiple singers recite or describe a legend, express loving devotion to a deity, or discuss spiritual ideas. It may include dancing or direct expression of bhavas (emotive states) by the singer. Many kirtan performances are structured to engage the audience where they either repeat the chant or reply to the call of the singer.

We are filled with excitement to host a State College phenomenal experienced and senior TriYoga teacher.

Discover a new perspective on yoga as you meet the physical and subtle practices of TriYoga®. Senior TriYoga teacher Theresa Shay will introduce TriYoga, exploring the systematic approach to health, happiness, and wisdom that is accessible to all bodies. Founded by internationally renowned Yogini Kaliji (Kali Ray), TriYoga is taught in 40+ countries. Theresa is the Founding Director of TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania, a nonprofit organization located in the State College area. (If you are curious about TriYoga with Theresa check out her regular schedule of online classes and private sessions and via Zoom through TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania, in the link above).

For over 20 years, the yoga teachers of TriYoga® of Central Pennsylvania have been sharing the gifts of healing and relaxation through the practice of yoga in State College. Based on Theresa’s experience as a teacher and student, she believes in the power of yoga to transform bodies, minds, spirits, and lives. We are all yoga students. We're friends and neighbors, thick and thin, bendy and tight, young and old, dabblers and experts. She believes yoga improves lives no matter what brings you in the door, how often you practice, or how far you take it. As a certified yoga teacher, she is trained to help bodies expand safely and comfortably into new possibilities through all stages of life. Theresa’s dedicated yoga teachings provide a peaceful, vibrant, and welcoming environment to support your journey.

This weekend will include presentations, practices, Q&A, and chanting (kirtan). Theresa will also offer 1:1 sessions during the weekend for those looking for individual instruction. We have different pages for all of these events. See links below
